Evolving an Agent-Based Model to Probe Behavioral Rules in Flocks of Cowbirds
نویسنده
چکیده
Flocks of brown-headed cowbirds, Molothrus ater, selforganize social environments, which have strong impacts on social learning and behavior. To understand the rules underlying self-organization of the social environment, I develop an agent-based model of cowbird social association and evolve it to match observed patterns of association measured from real birds. The behavioral rules evolved in the model provide insight into the type of rules real birds use to organize their social environment. The evolved models successfully predicted both association patterns and additional related movement variables measured from a new flock of birds.

In the company of cowbirds, Molothrus ater ater: robust patterns of sociability predict reproductive performance.
Many species exhibit behavioral tendencies that are stable over time and across contexts. Robust variation in sociability, or the propensity to approach others, is widespread across the vertebrates. Nonetheless, the influence of sociability on reproductive performance is largely unknown. In this study, we explore the relationship between sociability and reproductive behavior in flocks of Brown-...
متن کاملReducing Retrieval Time in Automated Storage and Retrieval System with a Gravitational Conveyor Based on Multi-Agent Systems
The main objective of this study is to reduce the retrieval time of a list of products by choosing the best combination of storage and retrieval rules at any time. This is why we start by implementing some storage rules in an Automated Storage/Retrieval System (Automated Storage and Retrieval System: AS/RS) fitted with a gravity conveyor while some of these rules are dedicated to storage and ot...
متن کاملFlocking Behaviour: Agent-Based Simulation and Hierarchical Leadership
We have studied how leaders emerge in a group as a consequence of interactions among its members. We propose that leaders can emerge as a consequence of a self-organized process based on local rules of dyadic interactions among individuals. Flocks are an example of self-organized behaviour in a group and properties similar to those observed in flocks might also explain some of the dynamics and ...
متن کاملA review of agent-based modeling (ABM) concepts and some of its main applications in management science
We live in a very complex world where we face complex phenomena such as social norms and new technologies. To deal with such phenomena, social scientists often use reductionism approach where they reduce them to some lower-lever variables and model the relationships among them through a scheme of equations. This approach that is called equation based modeling (EBM) has some basic weaknesses in ...
متن کاملI-55: Molecular Imaging Overview
Molecular imaging is the noninvasive visualization of normal as well as abnormal cellular processes at a molecular or genetic level of function. It is used to provide characterization and measurement of biological processes in living animals and humans (in vivo). The discipline of molecular imaging evolved rapidly over the past decade through the integration of cell biology, molecular biology a...
